Durante il secondo round di interviste della Winter Music Conference a Miami, Polpetta Mag ha incontrato la Diynamic Crew nel paradisiaco contesto del Nikki Beach. La Diynamic è una delle etichette più influenti del ramo house melodico del momento; nata negli anni in cui la minimal sovrastava tutti gli altri generi musicali da club, Solomun, fondatore dell’etichetta ha saputo guardare al futuro e creare un genere musicale che di li a 6 anni sarebbe diventato il più diffuso in Europa e nel mondo. Abbiamo avuto l’onore di chiacchierare con alcuni di loro tra un mojito e l’altro,  scoprendo come il saggio boss Solomun sia convinto di quanto sia importante saper tenere unita una squadra forte come la Diynamic, mentre Stimming dice di non riuscire a fare a meno del suo studio di registrazione, David August svela di essere per metà italiano e in più qualche segreto della sua genialità, per poi chiudere con gli ultimi arrivati nella squadra, ma di certo non meno importanti, Adrian&Adrian meglio conosciuti come Adriatique.

ITALIAN VERSION

SOLOMUN 

Siamo di fronte a uno dei migliori Dj/produttori del momento ed è davvero un onore per noi. Cosa puoi dirci di più di Mladen Solomun?

Bè.. Sono un bell’uomo… sono molto alto… sono una persona onesta, leale, amichevole e.. per il resto si raccoglie ciò che si semina. =)

Raccontaci della storia della Diynamic. Cosa è successo quando hai deciso di fondare l’etichetta?

Ero semplicemente uno che voleva mettersi in proprio, fare un po’ di testa sua. Non volevo più mandare le mie produzioni a centinaia di etichette e aspettare mesi e mesi per una risposta, così.. In quel periodo suonavo come resident in un party ad Amburgo e una sera uno dei proprietari si avvicinò a me mentre stavo suonando una delle mie tracce e mi chiese “Che cos’è questa roba? Ma è fantastica.. Dovresti aprire una tua etichetta.” Così da lì cominciai a valutare questa possibilità. Quel parti si chiamava Do It Yourself e questo è il motivo per cui più tardi abbiamo chiamato l’etichetta DIYnamic. L’idea nacque li.

Com’era la Diynamic 7 anni fa, quando muoveva i primi passi?

Erano altri tempi.. a quel tempo la minimal spopolava e noi eravamo la prima etichetta che cominciava a produrre musica più armonica, ricca di emozioni, più melodica. Questo fu il motivo per cui ottenemmo da subito l’attenzione delle persone, perché eravamo i primi che cercavano di fare musica diversa rispetto al trend di quel periodo. E’ stato fatto tutto passo passo è venuto molto naturale in verità. I primi artisti a lavorare con me furono H.O.S.H. e Stimming.

Ora è una delle etichette più influenti in Europa e nel mondo, hai fatto tutto da te (Do It Yourself)? 

Wooo, questa è una buona domanda! La cosa più importante è che siamo riusciti a scegliere gli artisti giusti, passo passo. Cerchiamo il talento negli artisti e per fare questo è importante conoscere le persone a fondo anche al di là della musica che fanno. E’ importante avere un team affiatato, ma in modo naturale. Ovviamente se qualcuno un giorno volesse andarsene e prendere una strada diversa, sarei l’ultima persona a dirgli “No devi rimanere”. Gli auguro tutto il meglio, buona fortuna e comunque rimarremmo amici. Credo di aver imparato questo quando giocavo a calcio, perché so che se hai una squadra forte lavorare insieme è anche più divertente.

Quali caratteristiche deve avere un artista per entrare a far parte della Diynamic?

Deve avere uno stile musicale proprio, il suo modo di vedere le cose.. non abbiamo bisogno di una copia di H.O.S.H., Stimming, David August.. è importante avere grandi occhi per trovare il proprio stile.

C’è qualcosa che cambieresti o vorresti migliorare nella scena elettrnoica di oggi?

Questo secondo me è un periodo davvero buono per noi perché la musica è cambiata negli ultimi tre quattro anni e la nostra etichetta è stata al centro di questo cambiamento quindi le cose stanno andando davvero molto bene. Da parte mia posso solo dire che tutti noi dovremmo sempre cercare di fare qualcosa di nuovo.

E cosa puoi dirci dell’imminente Diynamic Festival ad Amsterdam?

E’ il nostro primo festival e siamo molto entusiasti. Abbiamo cominciato a metterci “in proprio” anche per quanto riguarda le feste perché abbiamo realizzato che non importa dove suoniamo, ma le persone ci seguono ovunque per vederci e sentirci. Quindi ci sarà il nostro primo festival il 18 maggio, proprio ad Amsterdam perché li da molto tempo abbiamo collaborazioni con vari club ed è un luogo dove la nostra musica è molto seguita. Stiamo lavorando sulle nostre feste per fare in modo che siano più presenti e che siano sempre migliori soprattutto per i nostri fan. Così è arrivato il momento di fare il nostro primo festival, abbiamo già venduto 2.000 biglietti quindi siamo davvero felici e non vediamo l’ora che arrivi quel giorno. Invece il programma estivo vedrà la Diynamic Neon Night ogni martedì al Sankeys a Ibiza e in più un party al Pacha con il progetto di far suonare uno dei nostri più un ospite esterno.

Ti aspettiamo anche in Italia! Hai qualche data presto dalle nostre parti?

Si sono in arrivo diversi show in Italia credo Napoli, Roma e altre 4 date. Adoro l’Italia, io sono croato quindi… siamo vicini di casa! =)

Perché dici che la “musica è un momento”?

Perché a volte ti senti felice, a volte triste.. i sentimenti cambiano da un momento all’altro e quando guardo alle mie migliori tracce del passato non sento la traccia in sè, ma solo l’attimo, il sentimento che per me rappresenta quella traccia.

STIMMING

Ciao Martin, benvenuto su Polpetta Mag! Stiamo ancora tutti pensando alla reinterpretazione di “November Morning” dell’Orchestra di Brandeburgo. Cosa hai provato sentendo l’Orchestra suonare la tua traccia?

E’ stato un momento incredibile, ho avuto la pelle d’oca per tutto il tempo mentre 60/70 elementi dell’orchestra suonavano la mia musica e la cosa veramente speciale è che hanno registrato per 18 minuti, per me è stato come rimanere ipnotizzato; quando hanno terminato è stato come svegliarsi da un sogno. Sentimenti molto strani perché hanno registrato in paths, così non avevo idea di come sarebbe stato il risultato finale. Un momento incredibile davvero.

Non tutti riescono a creare il proprio genere di musica, ma tu ce l’hai fatta il tuo genere è unico. E’ per questo che suoni solo live? Ti senti più libero di esprimerti?

Penso che fosse una decisione logica per me, perché sono un produttore e non un Dj. Rispetto molto la forma d’arte del Djing, ma non voglio approfondirla più di tanto. Una volta che sei in scena è altrettanto difficile quanto suonare live, ma per me era una decisione più azzeccata suonare solo live.

Che tipo di live suonerai stasera qui al Nikki Beach?

Un nuovo live! Completamente differente dall’ultimo. Sarà più fluido, come se fosse un unico pezzo. E’ la prima volta che suono dopo tre mesi, perché ho passato molto tempo in studio per lavorare al mio nuovo album che uscirà a giugno. Quindi sono.. decisamente carico stasera!

Che pensi della Diynamic Neon Night in programma per quest’estate a Ibiza?

Sono molto felice perché abbiamo avuto la residenza, ma non mi sposterò a Ibiza tutta la stagione. Ho bisogno di stare vicino al mio studio. =) Ma sarà una grande festa sono sicuro.. Ibiza ha qualcosa di speciale.

Preferisci suonare nei club o ai festival?

Preferisco fare musica per i club.. che non significa che non mi piacciano i festival, ma c’è più attenzione alla musica in un club. I festival solo più dispersivi.

 

DAVID AUGUST

First of all, how are you Dave? Are you enjoying Miami? 

Of course, this is my first time in Miami and It’s nice to be here! Ma… siete italiani voi?

Si!

Anche io sono italiano, per metà. Mia madre è di Roma! =) Comunque si sta andando alla grande, siamo arrivati due giorni fa io Solomun, Uner, Adriatique, Stimming.. abbiamo la casa tutti insieme quindi ci divertiamo parecchio tra feste, relax.. non manca niente.

Non vediamo l’ora di sentire il tuo nuovo album “Times” che uscirà i primi di Aprile. Cosa ci puoi dire a proposito?

“Times” è diverso dalle mie ultime produzioni molto più personale. Volevo comunicare tutte le esperienze musicali che ho vissuto fino ad oggi. E’ un album molto sound base, cioè poche tracce da ballo e molto più da ascolto, ma nei miei live adatterò quelle tracce in modo che possano andare bene anche per la pista da ballo.

E’ un album pieno di emozioni, cosa ti ha ispirato maggiormente mentre lo stavi scrivendo?

Prendo ispirazione da qualsiasi cosa mi circondi, il luogo dove mi trovo, le persone che incontro, la musica che ascolto quindi anche questa volta i fattori sono stati tanti. Soprattutto stare solo pensando, magari in mezzo alla natura; i luoghi molto affollati non mi aiutano in questo senso preferisco starmene appartato. Poi certo penso che una delle mie linee guida principali sia stato l’amore per una persona e soprattutto per la musica; quello che cerco di fare è di muovere i sentimenti della gente attraverso la musica quindi questa è la base iniziale e il fine ultimo che mi aiuta a fare quello faccio. Provare emozioni grazie alle persone che mi circondano e allo stesso tempo trasmettere loro attraverso la musica quello che provo. Anche la mia famiglia è un punto di riferimento importante nella mia vita.

Come stanno andando i tuoi studi come Tonmeister a Berlino? Ti aiuta questo  nel migliorare la tua musica? 

Studiando ho imparato molte cose che applico quando produco; però viceversa il tipo di musica che faccio mi da molti vantaggi nel studiare in questo campo. Ho aggiunto un po’ di scienza alla musica che già facevo prima: fisica del suono, tecniche di modulazione, acustica, tecniche di registrazione ecc.

Suonerai qualche traccia dell’album stasera nel tuo live?

Si suonerò qualche estratto dell’album, più qualche inedito e qualche vecchia immancabile traccia a cui sono molto affezionato. =)

 

ADRIATIQUE

Ciao Adrian & Adrian! Benvenuti a Miami con Polpetta Mag! La vostra scalata al successo è stata molto rapida, siete dei Dj di talento e le vostre produzioni hanno fatto il  giro del mondo. Come avete deciso di lavorare insieme?

Eravamo Dj da molto tempo e inizialmente cominciammo a produrre separatamente. Poi ci è capitato di suonare insieme diverse volte ad alcune feste e siamo rimasti impressionati l’uno del lavoro dell’altro, di come ci trovassimo d’accordo su molte cose. Pensavamo che i nostri Dj set si combinassero perfettamente insieme, poi tutto si è evoluto in modo naturale. Abbiamo cominciato a suonare in alcune feste insieme poi abbiamo cominciato a lavorare sulle produzioni.

Sono uscite vostre tracce per alcune delle migliori etichette del mondo. Hive Audio, City Fox, Culprit L.A. e ora certo la Diynamic. Cosa significa far parte di questa squadra?

Ci sentiamo molto onorati, è una delle etichette migliori attualmente e diventa sempre più popolare nel tempo. Ci siamo messi in contatto con Solomun mandandogli i nostri lavori, poi abbiamo cominciato questo viaggio insieme. Sono uscite tracce anche per Wolf + Lamb, Culprit, City Fox, ma ora siamo parte di una famiglia ed è fantastico. Lavorare con Solomun è grandioso, è un artista ed è anche una bella persona, siamo diventati molto amici.

Avete più soddisfazione lavorando in studio o suonando di fronte al pubblico?

A: E’ difficile a dirsi, sono emozioni differenti ma..

A: Io preferisco lavorare in studio sulle produzioni..

A: Si c’è soddisfazione quando finisci una traccia dopo ore e ore di lavoro,  ascoltando e riascoltando e finalmente concludere qualcosa ti rende davvero orgoglioso. Per me entrambe le cose, adoro viaggiare e suonare per molte ore.. fare il Dj è stato il mio primo amore ma produrre musica mi rende felice allo stesso modo.

Parteciperete anche al Diynamic Festival ad Amsterdam, che pensate a proposito?

E’ il primo festival Diynamic quindi siamo davvero molto emozionati, abbiamo appena cominciato con la promozione e siamo molto felici che si svolga li perché la Diynamic ha molto seguito ad Amsterdam, quindi credo sarà uno dei migliori party dell’anno.

Grazie molte per questa intervista, godetevi Miami. E’ la vostra prima volta qui?

Si è la prima volta, siamo parecchio esaltati per questo. =)

Verrete presto anche in Italia?

Siamo stati a Milano un paio di volte e siamo sempre stati accolti con molto entusiasmo. Non sappiamo ancora esattamente quando ma vogliamo tornare sicuramente. L’Italia è un bel paese per le persone, il cibo.. e avete una cultura veramente interessante. Ci vedremo presto da quelle parti! =)

SOLOMUN

So, here we are with one of the best Dj/producer in the world It’s really an honor for us. Can you tell us more about Mladen Solomun?

I’m a very good looking guy, I’m very tall, I’m a very honest person, loyal, friendly and.. what goes around comes around. =)

Tell us more about Diynamic’s story? What’s happened when you decided to start the label? 

I just wanted to do my own things, I didn’t want to send my stuff to hundreds labels and waiting for answer so.. there was a party in Hamburg were I usually played and one time one of the owner listening to one of my own tracks asked to me “Who’s that? It’s amazing, you have to do your own label”. Then I started thinking about It, the party’s name was Do It Yourself.. so this is the reason why later we called the label DIYnamic. The idea bornt there.

How was Diynamic 7 years ago? 

It was different times.. at that time there was minimal very big so we were one of the first label to start to produce music with more harmony more emotional and more melodic stuff so this is the reason why we get so much attention from the other people because we were the first trying to do different music than the trend of the music of that time. Everything was made step by step, the first artist with me were H.O.S.H. and Stimming then we start working together on It.

Now is one of the most influential label in Europe and in the world, you Did It Yourself? =)

woo, this is a good question! The most important thing is that we choose the right artists step by step. We find talent from artist and It’s important to check the person also behind It doesn’t matter if It was Uner from Spain or Adriatique were one of the lasts It was about one year ago that we started our label parties with Hosh Stimming David August and that was so important for me.. do you know It’s important to have an attached team, but in a natural way. Obviusly if someone one day say to me that he want to do his own things and take his own way i’m the last who say “You have to stay”. I wish all the best, good luck and we still be friend but I think that this is because before I played as soccer and I know that if you have a strong team is besides more fun.

What are the characteristics that an artist should have to be part of Diynamic?

They need them own style, them own way.. I don’t need a copy of Hosh, David August or Stimming It’s important to have big eyes to find his own style.

Is there something that you would like to change or improve in the club scene nowadays? 

This period is very good because the sound was changing in the last three four years and our label is in the centre of this change so we are a part of It. Actually is very fine, but everybody of us have to try to do always something new.

And what about the Diynamic Festival in Amsterdam? 

It’s our first festival and we are very excited about that, we start doing our own thing also with parties, not only with this festival but also with our residency at Sankeys in Ibiza, because we realized that It doesn’t matter where we are playing but the people are coming to see us and follow us. Now we are going to Amsterdam on May 18th because we have a long time partnership with small clubs there and is a good fans base for us. Then we are working on our nights to make more present and more good for people so we are looking at the future and It was time for our first festival, we already sold 2.000 tickets so we are really excited about that. In Ibiza we have the Diynamic Neon Night every Tuesday at Sankeys and our party in Pacha also, with one of our artist more one guest.

We wait for you in Italy, have you some gigs in the neighborhood soon? 

Yeah they’re coming some gigs in Italy, in Napoli I think then Rome and four or five more. I really love Italy, I’m from Croatia so.. we are neighbors. =)

Last question; why do you tell that “music is a moment”?

Becaouse sometimes you feel good then you feel bad.. the feelings are always different than now and what I have to do today is asking me about my best track of history and there’s no tracks but only moments.

STIMMING 

We were all touched by the re-interpretation of “November Morning” edited by the Brandeburg State Orchestra. How was for you listen the Orchestra playing your music? What emotions did you feel? 

It was a fucking crazy moment, I had goosebumps during 60 70 elements of the orchestra where playing my stuff, and on the other side what was very very special was that they recorded for 18 minutes but when the record was finished I didn’t realized It, It was like woke up from a dream. Really strange feeling because they recorded in paths like sixteen bash then the next sixteen bash I didn’t knew how this sounds in one part. Then was wired.. a really wired situation, really mixed feelings.

Not everybody can create his own genre of music, but you did It. Stimming genre of music is unique; that’s why you play only live and not Dj?  

I think It’s a logic decision for me, because I’m a producer and not a Dj I respect the art form of the Dj so much but I don’t wanna learn It completely because producing is creating music and It’s different but when on stage Djing is as difficult as playing live. For me It was a logic step.

What kind of live you are gonna play tonight at Nikki Beach? 

A new one! Completely different from the last, It’s gonna be more fluent much more as one piece as you can imagine is the first time in three month that I play my live because I was in the studio working on my last album which is coming out soon so I take a lot of studio time.. so now I’m fucking excited.

A summer full of gigs and fun is waiting for you this season. The Diynamic crew has the residency at Sankeys Ibiza this summer, are you excited about this? Are you gonna move to Ibiza for the entire season?

I am excited but no I don’t gonna move to Ibiza. I need to stay near my studio. =) But there will be really great night.. Ibiza has something special.

Do you prefer playing in clubs or in festivals? 

I prefer making music for clubs.. that doesn’t mean that I don’t like festivals. But there’s more focus on the music in a club.

 

ADRIATIQUE

Welcome in Miami with Polpetta Mag! Your climb to success has been fast, you are really talented Djs and your productions went round the whole world. What led you to choose working together when you met each other? 

It was like.. we were Djs for a long time before we start to produce as solo djs.. then we played together in a few parties together and we were pretty impressed from the other one and we thought that our djs set can could fixed well together so we got in touch and tried few times together and It developed very naturally. We started playing together in some parties and then we start to produce.

Then you’ve released records for the best house label in the world! Hive Audio, City Fox, Culprit L.A. and now of course Diynamic. What does mean for you to be a member of the Diynamic family?

We feel great, is really one of the biggest label, taking more and more success over the years. We just get in touch with the tracks we made, then we started this relationship. It’s great to be here, we released tracks also on Wolf + Lamb, Culprit, City Fox but now we are a part of a family and that’s great. Working with Solomun is great, he’s an artist and he’s great also as humane became very good friends.

When do you have the best feelings, working in studio or playing in front of the crowd?

A: It’s difficult to say, these are different feeling but..

A: I think for meFor me It’s better to stay in the studio and work on the productions..

A: He has the more satisfaction when you finished something after hours of work on a track, listening over and over and finally finish It makes you proud you know. For me I think is kind of both, I enjoy traveling and djing for a long times so.. It’s always my first love but making music is as good as djing.

You are going to participate at the Dyinamic Festival in Amsterdam on May 18th. Are you excited about that? Is It the first Diynamic Festival?

Yes is the first Diynamic festival, we just started with the promotion and we are really proud to be there because in Amsterdam the Diynamic has a lot of followers and so I think It will be one of the biggest party this year.

Yes is the first time, and we are really excited!

Are you gonna came in Italy soon?

We were in Milano two times, and was definitely great, so.. I don’t know exactly when is the next time, but we definitely wanna come back. Italy is great, people and food and you have a really interesting culture.. so we definitely come back!
