ENG VERSION

Outlook Festival – Europe’s award-winning showcase of music inspired by soundsystem culture, returns for 2013 armed with an incredible line-up featuring some of the world’s best live acts and DJs across Dub, Hip-Hop, Drum ‘n’ Bass, Dubstep and beyond. Taking place in Croatia in the beautiful scenery of a 19th century fort, the setting is utterly unparalleled and revellers can party either on land or at sea, surrounded by unspoilt coastlines, glorious sunshine and the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Outlook is the leading festival of its kind and has grown from strength to strength since its launch in 2008 whilst retaining all the elements and beliefs that make it stand out from other festivals. Eclectic without losing sight of its identity, Outlook Festival boasts live acts and DJ sets which span ages, generations, styles and decades in a multitude of interesting and unique venues including an abandoned fort, a dungeon, a courtyard, a moat and a harbour.

Outlook is delighted to be inviting legendary Hip-Hop icon Mos Def to Croatia. One of the most critically successful rappers of all time, the earnest MC has gained a wealth of praise having spearheaded the 90s Hip-Hop movement alongside fellow Outlook performer Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek as part of super-group Black Star. They will be joined by Jay Electronica whose cultural insight and lyrical dexterity has seen him compared to Hip-Hop heavyweights Nas and Common and Brooklyn born rising star Joey Bada$$. In what will be one of the most rounded hip-hop line-ups to have ever been pieced together, there will be a special performance from musical veterans The Pharcyde who recently celebrated 20 years in the game and are universally revered.  Outlook will also be welcoming back conscious Hip-Hop icon Pharoahe Monch, whose memorable performance back in 2011 proved to be one of the festival highlights.

Outlook’s love of dub, roots and soundsystem culture will be portrayed through Europe’s toughest soundsystems played on by some of the world’s best dub and reggae acts including captivating live performers Alborosie & Shengan Clan and a DJ set from legendary reggae/dub enthusiast David Rodigan. Also playing will be Mala in Cuba – an exciting live prospect marrying Cuban sounds with Mala’s own Jamaican heritage and the UK’s legendary sound system culture. Whilst celebrating 21 years of his seminal drum ‘n’ bass label Ram Records will be Andy C who will host the best of his artists alongside fellow legendary acts Goldie, Randall, LTJ Bukem and Conrad.

UK Dubstep figureheads Digital Mystikz will also be returning to Croatia, alongside Swamp 81 head honcho Loefah and Nonplus record label boss Boddika.  Outlook will also be showcasing many other Dubstep DJs who help to spearhead bass music’s continually shifting landscape.  Joining the musical dots of Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Reggae and Dubstep will be legendary DJ and producer Mr Scruff as will Brooklyn’s finest Machinedrum and Glaswegian party-starter Jackmaster. Warp’s finest Rustie and Outlook favourite’s Gentleman’s Dub Club will also be in attendance.

Having grown from humble beginnings, Outlook festival has become a highly anticipated event on the musical calendar, a three-day rite of passage for music fans and supporters of soundsystem culture, taking place in a festival site like no other. Fort Punta Christo is a 19th century fort originally built by the Austrians to defend what was their main naval port.  With its courtyard, moat, ballroom and dungeon it feels like a re-discovered forgotten world that is transformed into mystical venues for the duration of the festival. The city of Pula, where the festival takes place in the stunning region of Istria in Croatia, is steeped in history and home to many ancient Roman buildings, including the magnificent amphitheatre, offering festival goers beautiful and unspoiled natural surroundings with glorious sunshine to enjoy in addition to the festivals vibe and music.

As well as the on-site readymade campsite that Outlook has to offer, festival goers are able to stay in one of the reasonably priced hotels and apartments in the city of Pula and surrounding villages. Additionally, low-cost flights regularly travel to and from Pula or nearby city Trieste with taxis and buses providing easy travel to and from the festival campsite. With beach parties and boat parties conveniently located a stone’s throw from the campsite and main festival site, revellers can party from dusk till dawn, on land or at sea, without having to negotiate long distances or incur any further travel costs.
